EAST KENT MENCAP

East Kent Mencap provides opportunities and choices for adults and children with a learning disability, enabling them to achieve the things they want out of life and to be valued, treated equally, listened to and included. Our services reach across the region of East Kent, including Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Shepway, Swale and Thanet. We run a scrapstore in Ramsgate which takes donations of safe, clean 'scrap' craft products. The craft supplies are sold at affordable prices for others to use to get creative. It is run by volunteers with and without a learning disability.

Social Impact

The ScrapStore saves re-usable items from landfill. It provides work experience and volunteer opportunities for people with a learning disability, enabling them to build a portfolio of employability skills with a view to finding paid work. It brings together people with a learning disability and members of the public. It promotes the skills and creativity of people with a learning disability. It does projects with local artists and crafters involving people with and without a learning disability.
